Repairs to the Camp Meeting Road bridge–which spans Saucon Creek in Upper Saucon Township west of Rt. 378–are scheduled to begin soon, and will mean a 3.55 mile detour for some motorists this spring and summer.

According to information posted on the Upper Saucon Township website, the work is part of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) Rapid Bridge Replacement Project.

Pre-construction drilling was scheduled to begin this week.

“Actual construction is expected to begin the week of May 14 and be complete in 75 days,” according to the township. “During this time, the bridge will be closed, with drivers directed to follow a detour along Route 378, Route 309 and Saucon Valley Road.”

According to PennDOT information, the two-lane Camp Meeting Road Bridge was built in 1937 and is a concrete T-beam span.

The bridge is 93 feet long and has a structural sufficiency rating of 50, with a current classification as “structurally deficient.”

The Camp Meeting Road Bridge in Upper Saucon Township is being closed for 75 days for rehabilitation.
