An Allentown man is facing DUI charges after Hellertown Police say a toxicological analysis showed he allegedly drove with seven different drugs and/or medications present in his blood late last month.
In a news release Thursday, borough police said a blood sample obtained from Nicholas Ryan Santaniello, 40, tested positive for methamphetamine, amphetamine, a metabolite of cocaine, alprazolam, lorazepam, buprenorphine and pregabalin.
“Buprenorphine is used in medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to help people reduce or quit their use of heroin or other opiates, such as pain relievers like morphine,” according to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.
Pregabalin, which is also known by the prescription name Lyrica, is a gabapentinoid used to treat a variety of conditions including epilepsy, neuropathic pain and generalized anxiety disorder, according to online resources.
Police said Santaniello was tested after he was stopped for alleged traffic violations at Main and Water streets shortly after 1 a.m. April 27.
In addition to the traffic violations, police said Santaniello is charged with DUI-Drugs (General Impairment) and DUI (Schedule II or III Controlled Substance).
