The man accused of planting and detonating homemade bombs along or near rural roads throughout Upper Bucks County in early 2018 was jailed May 24 after allegedly violating a condition of his bail’s pre-trial supervision rules, and a judge ruled Friday that he should remain behind bars until his trial begins in August, Lehigh Valley Live reported.
According to the news website, David W. Surman Jr., 31, of Milford Township, was taken into custody after probation officers visited his home late last month and reported finding a laptop and two phones with Internet access capabilities, when Surman is prohibited from accessing the Internet because of a child pornography case in which he is also charged.
Surman’s attorney Paul Lang told Philly.com that his client will be found not guilty of all charges at the trial, which is scheduled to begin Aug. 19 at the Bucks County Courthouse in Doylestown.
Surman’s girlfriend Tina May Smith, 31, also of Milford Township, is also charged in the Upper Bucks bomb case, which authorities say involved Surman allegedly throwing improvised explosive devices from an open window of a vehicle as Smith allegedly drove.
Both Surman and Smith are facing long lists of charges which include charges of unlawfully possessing or manufacturing weapons of mass destruction.
Surman was charged last June, and Smith was charged in October.
