Not all the stars at Panther football games are on the field. The Saucon Valley High School marching band plays a big role in generating school and community spirit at football games and events all throughout the year. In gratitude for their enthusiastic performances and in recognition of their musical talent, Saucon Source is proud to recognize this year’s SVHS senior band members with our “Senior Band Member Salute.”
Saucon Valley High School senior marching band member Madison Apple hopes to pursue music education at West Chester University next year.

Q: What instrument(s) do you play and how long have you been playing them in/outside of band?
I started playing saxophone in fourth grade and then started to learn new instruments with the help of my mom. I learned flute, trumpet, clarinet, guitar, piano and drums. I play the flute and piccolo in the concert band, snare drum in marching band and I also sing in chamber choir and concert choir.
Q: How did you first become interested in music? What keeps you playing?
My mom sparked my interest in music. Having a music teacher as a mom has kept me playing. She helped me get involved in a parade drum and bugle corps and helped me with lessons and continues to support my music.
Q: What’s your favorite thing about being a member of the marching band?
My favorite part of being in the marching band is being surrounded by people who love music just as much as I do.
Q: What’s the best number to get the crowd going at a Saucon Valley football game?
The best number to get the crowd going is definitely “Hey” song. We usually play it as the boys run out on the field before the game. The student section sings along and it’s an awesome way to get the parents excited too.
Q: Who has helped you become a better musician?
Both of my parents have helped me become a better musician by supporting me and helping me with lessons. My dad has also helped me to get singing opportunities outside of school. All of my music teachers have helped me grow as a musician, especially Mr. Miller and Mr. Marini. They continue to encourage me and help me with my future music plans.
Q: What are your future plans, and do they involve music?
I am hoping to attend West Chester University and major in music education or sports medicine. After graduating I would like to become a dog mom, get married and have a few kids. I plan to continue in theater throughout and beyond college and continue playing my instruments.
