A Lower Saucon Township man is charged with DUI: Highest Rate of Alcohol (BAC of .16 percent +) and endangering the welfare of children after township police say he allegedly struck a rack that had propane cylinders for exchange on it while driving under the influence of alcohol in front of Exxon in the 3600 block of Rt. 378 Sept. 2.
In a post on the department’s Crimewatch page Friday police said John Patrick Rice, 38, was not injured when he allegedly drove into the rack, which is in front of the gas station’s convenience store.
Police said Rice, of the 1700 block of Old Mill Road, had a juvenile in his car at the time of the accident, who was also uninjured.
After Rice failed field coordination exercises, police said he was taken to St. Luke’s University Hospital in Fountain Hill for a blood test. Police said the test indicated that his blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was .29 percent, or almost four times the legal limit.
The maximum legal limit for BAC for all drivers in Pennsylvania is .08 percent.
According to court records, a preliminary hearing in his case is scheduled to be held Oct. 28 at 9:45 a.m. before District Judge Alan Mege in Northampton County District Court 03-2-04 in Lower Saucon Township.
