It’s mid-winter, a time of year when public safety can be severely compromised if fire hydrants are buried by snow and ice.
And with nearly a foot of snow now on the ground in some places, local fire and safety officials are reminding residents whose properties have hydrants next to them to keep them shoveled out.
Able-bodied residents are also asked to assist those who are disabled or may have difficulty shoveling with clearing the snow and ice from around the hydrants.
