The public works department in Fountain Hill is getting a helping hand from Mother Nature this week as crews attempt to remove large snow piles from borough streets.
Some local students were kept at school because their bus couldn’t reach their regular stops, and trash collection in one borough was postponed due to what officials in a phone message called “larger than expected snowfall” from Monday’s predicted winter storm.
If you’re tired of snow, the good news is that a warm-up is on the way. The bad news is that before temperatures begin to rise, another round of snow is also expected.
Tuesday night’s predicted ice storm never materialized, but lovers of snow and ice need not fret. Yet another winter storm has set its sights on Pennsylvania, with the next round of winter weather forecast to begin late Wednesday night and continue into Friday.
If you’re tired of snow, the latest weather forecast will hold no joy for you. That’s because it predicts another round of the white stuff, which if it materializes will become the third accumulating snowfall in the area within the last week.
Although nearly as much snow fell earlier this week as normally falls during an entire winter season, weather forecasters say more is headed to the Lehigh Valley.
It’s been about 24 hours since a historic snowstorm ended with two-plus feet of snow on the ground for many in the Saucon Valley area, and a large-scale cleanup is under way.
Tuesday was a day of digging out and cleaning up in Hellertown and communities all across the Lehigh Valley, after a powerful Nor’easter dumped as much as 36 inches of snow on the area over a 48-hour period. And for some, the work isn’t over yet.
The snow began to fall around 11:30 a.m. Sunday. By 5 p.m. Monday there was nearly a foot-and-a-half on the ground in Hellertown and it was still falling–heavily–with meteorologists warning that it could continue to come down all night.
The borough of Hellertown and other municipalities have issued snow emergencies due to a Nor’easter that’s expected to dump as much as two feet of snow on the area.
