The victim in an early Friday morning crash on Rt. 378 in Lower Saucon Township has been identified by Northampton County Coroner Zachary Lysek as 23-year-old Bryan Veil of Hellertown, according to an article published by the Express-Times and the Lower Saucon Township Police Department.
Lysek told the Easton newspaper that Veil was pronounced dead at the scene from blunt force trauma, and he said the crash has been ruled an accident.
Veil was employed at Apex Sports LLC and Peapod, according to his Facebook page, where dozens of his friends are posting condolences and sharing personal memories.
According to township police–who continue to investigate the crash–Veil was driving an SUV that collided with a tractor-trailer on Rt. 378 between Seidersville Road and the entrance to the Saucon Square shopping center shortly before 12:45 a.m.
In a Friday afternoon news release, police said that according to their preliminary accident scene investigation, Veil was northbound on Rt. 378 when he crossed over the double yellow line and collided with the southbound tractor-trailer which was being driven by a 43-year-old Bethlehem man.
Veil was ejected from his vehicle and killed, while the tractor-trailer driver was uninjured, police said.
Neither driver had passengers in his vehicle, authorities added.
The crash closed the busy thoroughfare for about eight hours.
Township police are being assisted in their ongoing investigation by the Bethlehem Police Department’s accident reconstructionist, the news release stated.
