Upper Saucon Township supervisors voted Monday to send a letter to the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors requesting that it consider pressing for a change in state law that would allow all municipalities to tax movie theater tickets, according to an article published Tuesday by the Morning Call.
Currently Pittsburgh is the only municipality in the state that has such a tax.
According to the Morning Call article, Upper Saucon supervisors downplayed the immediate need for such a tax in the township–which is home to the popular Carmike Promenade 16 + IMAX multiplex in the Promenade Shops at Saucon Valley–but supervisor Jack DeMatos said it would be nice to have the option to enact one in the future.
According to the website Fandango.com, a regular adult movie ticket at Carmike Promenade 16 + IMAX is currently $10, a child’s ticket is $7 and a senior ticket is $5.75.
The township currently has a 4 percent amusement tax that is levied on greens fees at golf courses including the miniature golf course Putt U on Rt. 309, the story said.
