UPDATE: The Hellertown Area Library is scheduled to reopen on Monday, Dec. 7, 2015 at 10 a.m. Library materials checked out during its closure are not due back until after the reopening. The book drop is open for returns. Questions? Please contact director@hellertownlibrary.org.

Renovations to the Hellertown Area Library that will expand the facility and allow it to better serve patrons are set to begin on Tuesday, Sept. 29.

The first phase of the project will involve renovations to the library’s lower level.

During the first phase, the library will remain open.

The second phase will involve work on the first floor and Mezzanine (second floor) levels, and during that time the library will be closed.

Phase 2 will begin on Tuesday, Oct. 20.

No library materials will be due and the library’s book drop will be open while the library is closed for the renovations, which are being funded by capital contributions from Lower Saucon Township, a Community Challenge grant and a Keystone Funds grant.

Some of the goals of the project are:

In early 2014, Hellertown Area Library became the home library for both Hellertown and Lower Saucon Township. As a result, the library’s service area more than doubled, from 5,898 borough residents to a combined population of 16,670.
