Hellertown-Lower Saucon Community is a beloved annual Saucon Valley tradition, but its future is in doubt, as a new cadre of volunteers is needed to keep the one-day event viable, according to organizers.

Part of the annual Hellertown-Lower Saucon Community Day celebration involves recognizing well-established local businesses. According to a statement published on the Lower Saucon Township website, the Saucon Valley Partnership has scheduled a meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. at Hellertown Borough Hall, 685 Main St., Hellertown, “as the group that has been organizing Community Day has stepped down for various reasons (retirement, etc.).”

The Saucon Valley Partnership is a council of governments (COG) comprised of representatives from the borough of Hellertown, Lower Saucon Township and the Saucon Valley School District.

“We can’t do this alone, and (Community Day) is in desperate need of volunteers to coordinate and run the event to make it happen,” the statement says. “We are reaching out to business organizations, community organizations and residents from both Hellertown and Lower Saucon Township, seeking a group of dedicated volunteers to continue this day for our communities to get together as this is what makes our communities great.”

Potential volunteers are urged to attend the meeting to hear more about what can be done to make Community Day 2016 happen.

Hellertown-Lower Saucon Community Day began in 2001 and is typically held on the third Saturday in August in Dimmick Park.

The family-friendly, free event is sponsored by the local Hellertown-Lower Saucon Chamber of Commerce, and features dozens of local businesses and organizations (vendors), live entertainment, music, demonstrations, raffles, food and more.
