In its current Connect newsletter, PPL is warning its customers to “be on guard against scams.”
“Scam artists have not stopped their attempts to dupe customers into giving them money under a bogus threat of immediate termination of their service,” the company said. “Service termination always is a last resort. When it does occur, it is preceded by a formal notification process that involves a letter and phone call as well as posting a notice at the address in question.”
“PPL Electric Utilities attempts to work with all customers to help ensure uninterrupted service,” the statement said. “We do not call and threaten to shut off electric service. And we don’t call customers demanding payment. This is a common tactic of scammers. Some scam artists also request payment by way of a prepaid debit card. Please note that we do not accept any form of prepaid card for bill payments.”
PPL reminded customers to report any scam attempts to them at 1-800-342-5775 and also to their local police department.
