Kindred Spirits, New Age Shop, Celebrating 1 Year in Business This Weekend

Est. Read Time: 4 mins

June Rose did more than launch a successful retail business in Hellertown a year ago. She found a group of kindred spirits, and that’s made all the difference.

June Rose is the owner of Kindred Spirits Books and Gifts in Hellertown, which is celebrating one year in business.

Rose, who owns the aptly named Kindred Spirits Books & Gifts, 66 W. Water Street, has planned two days of events to coincide with the first anniversary of her unique shop, as well as the Christmas tree lighting in Hellertown Friday and Small Business Saturday.

“I just want people to know how deeply appreciative and grateful I feel for everyone who has supported Kindred Spirits,” Rose says.

Kindred Spirits will be open for extended shopping hours during the anniversary celebration, which is scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 25 and Saturday, Nov. 26. The borough Christmas tree lighting (Light-Up Night) starts at 6 p.m. on Friday with Santa’s arrival expected at 7 p.m. Rose also plans to keep the shop open every day in December (the store is usually closed on Wednesday).

Much of the open house will actually be taking place across the street at 45 W. Water Street, the location of Sacred Space, “because we have more room over there,” Rose says. In October Rose opened Sacred Space with her three sacred sisters, Amy Campbell-Musser, Willow-Duir Rosewood and Michele Slane, to provide more room to continue the spiritual services Kindred Spirits had already been offering, such as angel readings, tarot readings and meditation groups led by Rose.

With more space, more services are being offered, like reiki energy sessions, spiritual workshops, Kindred Kids meditation and Kindred Canvases, an alcohol-free, family-friendly paint group. “We plan to add more activities in the future once the four of us have settled our own calendars over there,” Rose said.

The open house will feature a variety of prizes and giveaways, as well as tasty treats, hot cocoa and hot apple cider.

Another thing regular Kindred Spirits shoppers can look forward to this weekend is the launch of the store’s loyalty program dubbed WOMAN rewards. WOMAN stands for Word Of Mouth Advertising Network.

“What it means,” Rose explains, “is say you come in to my store because your friend Mary told you and you make a purchase. I will have a card for Mary. It is the existing customer who will earn the WOMAN rewards for spreading the word about Kindred Spirits. Mary will earn a 5 percent discount for every first-time customer who comes in, makes a purchase and lets us know that Mary referred her.” Rose says customers can earn up to 25 percent off of their order by stacking the rewards.

“It should be the customer’s first time in here,” Rose adds. “We have to keep it organic.”

The WOMAN Rewards program will officially launch on Nov. 25, which happens to be Black Friday, and will be ongoing, according to Rose. In addition to the standing Word Of Mouth Networking Advertising program, Rose also plans to offer a unique discount program for the month of December, which she is keeping under wraps until after Kindred Spirits’ big weekend.

As with so many other things related to her store, Rose offers a different twist on Black Friday shopping and holiday shopping in general.

Of course, she will be bringing new items into the store to appeal to people looking for unusual holiday gifts for their family and friends, but the store will also serve as a refuge from the hustle and bustle of the holiday season.

“People can come in here to take a break from the typical holiday music, from the rush and crush,” Rose says.” It will be an oasis among the holiday shopping experience. If you need a break from it all, if you need to calm your spirit down, Rose welcomes anyone to come by the store and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.

“We have space for people to just sit and meditate if they need to restore their spirits,” she said.

“We will have a couple of new Christmas items, but we will also have gifts for Yule, which is a pagan celebration of warmth and light. No matter what, know that this will be a nice place to come if you don’t want to be overwhelmed with the traditional trappings of holiday shopping,” she explained.

Rose wants those who have never been to her store to know a few things about Kindred Spirits: “It smells good in here,” she said. “We hear that all the time. Not only is it a warm, welcoming atmosphere, but we also have items here that shoppers won’t be able to find anywhere else in the Valley. They will always find something unique here.”
