Kindred Spirits Books & Gifts–a new age store selling everything from sage and dreamcatchers to tapestries and crystals–will be “something different” when it opens at 66 W. Water Street inside the former offices of H&R Block on the biggest shopping day of the year–Black Friday, Nov. 27.

Proprietor June Rose is a former adjunct professor of English as a second language who is originally from Harrisburg.

When she lived in Springfield, Mo., she said, she fell in love with a new age shop there, and after an unexpected career change last year and several deaths in her immediate family, she felt the time was right to try something different.

“What I thought was, ‘I’m in a transition right now,'” she said.

Rose, who formerly lived in Allentown, said her plans coalesced after her mother passed away from pancreatic cancer in hospice in August.

While in Hellertown earlier this fall, Rose said she noticed a “for rent” sign outside the vacant building near Main Street and called to inquire about its availability.

After that, things progressed quickly and she signed a lease in late October.

Thanks to help from good friends who are volunteering their time to help her open, Rose said her store is already well-stocked with many unique items that relate to spirituality, self-awareness, dreams, moods and more.

Some of the items that will be sold include chainmail jewelry Rose makes herself, various specialty greeting cards, prisms, lanterns, books, incense, incense holders, a large variety of tumbled and rough stones, chakra items, clocks and crystals.

Rose said the store has been completely renovated with new paint, new blinds and a new sign out front.

Kindred Spirits’ hours will be: Monday through Thursday, 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.

Rose said she plans to stay open a bit later on opening day because of the borough’s Light-Up Night ceremony, which will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. at Borough Hall.

She is also planning to host meditation workshops at Kindred Spirits on Sundays.

For more information about the store customers can callĀ (610) 838-5463, or visit the business’s Facebook page.
