LANTA to Run Buses on Memorial Day

Est. Read Time: 2 mins

For the first time, the Lehigh and Northampton Transportation Authority (LANTA) says it will offer limited bus service on Memorial Day, which is Monday, May 27.

In a news release Thursday, the public transportation provider said that in addition to Memorial Day service, in the future its buses will run “Sunday-level service” on New Year’s Day, Easter Sunday, Independence Day and Labor Day. LANtaVan and LANtaFlex will also provide service those days.

Thanksgiving and Christmas Day will be the only days with no bus service in the Lehigh Valley, according to the news release.

“We are responding to the needs of a vibrant Lehigh Valley,” LANTA Executive Director Owen O’Neil said in a statement. “Serving the employment, shopping and social needs of our riders is a high priority at LANTA.”

“Adding transit service on holidays has been well-received by our riders,” he added.

The LANTA bus route that serves Hellertown is Route 215. A new schedule for Route 215 will take effect on Monday, June 10, 2019, according to the LANTA website.

Hellertown officials recently said they will try to find grant money to help pay for benches at the numerous bus stops served by LANTA Route 215 along the borough’s Main Street corridor.
