The Fountain Hill Fire Department and borough police escorted the rabbit at a safe social distance all around the borough Saturday, much to the delight of some of its youngest residents. Easter 2020 will certainly be memorable if for no other reason than the fact that so many events will not be taking place–or will only be taking place with major modifications due to social distancing required by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Many children don’t understand why time-honored Easter traditions like egg hunts have been canceled this year, and the disappointment they’re experiencing is part of a difficult adjustment society as a whole has had to make to help stop the spread of the disease.

In Fountain Hill borough, however, volunteer firefighters and police decided to make things just a bit easier for families this Easter by bringing the Easter Bunny to them.

From about 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, the fire company and borough police escorted the beloved bunny up and down residential streets so children and their parents–alerted by the wail of sirens–could wave to him and feel the joy of the season, even without an egg hunt.
