The Northampton County Drug and Alcohol Division will host a Narcan distribution and prescription drug take back drive-thru event on Tuesday, May 7, from 4 to 6 p.m., in recognition of National Fentanyl Awareness Day. Part of the county’s Fake is Real awareness campaign, the free, public event will take place at the entrance to ArtsQuest, 101 Founders Way, Bethlehem, where a prescription drug take back event–the county’s first–will also be held simulataneously.

County officials said the life-saving Narcan kits, which can be used to reverse an opioid overdose, will be distributed as part of the county’s commitment to fighting the fentanyl epidemic.

“Our campaign is funded from proceeds the county secured from litigation against opioid manufacturers. That funding will continue to be used to strengthen our response to the ongoing epidemic, raise awareness to prevent addiction and offer services to treat addiction,” said Northampton County Executive Lamont McClure.

“The County of Northampton’s commitment to fighting the fentanyl epidemic hasn’t wavered,” he added. “To date our Drug and Alcohol Division has distributed 2,697 Narcan kits.”

For the prescription drug take-back event, county officials requested that expired medications be pre-bagged and placed in the trunk of a car for easy access at the drive-thru.
