Giant Food Stores Friday announced a recall of Giant brand frozen waffles due to potential listeria contamination.

The recall includes 12.3 ounce packages of homestyle, buttermilk, blueberry, chocolate chip and multigrain waffles sold at Giant stores. Supplied and packaged under the Giant name by Treehouse Foods, the recall also includes 29.6 ounce packages of Giant chocolate chip frozen waffles.

Listeria poisoning or listeriosis can cause fever, aches, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, balance issues and convulsions in severe cases. The elderly, the very young, pregnant women and individuals with compromised immune systems are most at risk due to illness caused by the food-borne bacteria.
