The Saucon Valley defense surrendered only eight first downs to the Bangor Slaters.
The Saucon Valley Panthers followed last week’s win over Northern Lehigh with another. Saucon improved to a 6-0 record in the Colonial League with a convincing victory over the Bangor Slaters. Saucon used a punishing ground attack that earned 23 1st Downs in the 48-12 win against the Slaters. The stingy Panther defense gave up only eight 1st Downs and 73 rushing yards. It was a great night for Saucon Valley football.
Bangor had the ball first, but quickly punted after only three offensive plays. Saucon Valley took possession and manufactured an 11 play 69-yard drive that ended with an 9-yard Ian “Sizzler” Csicsek touchdown. Sean Cyphers PAT hit the target and with 5:33 remaining in the 1st Quarter the Panthers led the Slaters 7-0.

Saucon Valley’s defense forced another three-and-out punt and the offense went back to work. This time it was a six play drive capped by a 48-yard touchdown run by Csicsek. “Sizzler” cut up inside a slobber-knocker of a block by Christian Alling, powered through a couple of would-be tacklers and hit the end zone for the score. The PAT was good and at the end of the 1st Quarter Saucon extended their lead 14-0.
The Panther defense gave up only 73 rushing yards to the Slaters.
On the next Slater drive the Panthers turned opportunistic and forced a fumble that they recovered at their own 38-yardline. Six plays later the Csicsek and the Panthers pounded the ball in for a four yard score. Sean Cyphers connected once again and with 9:05 left to play until halftime it was a 21-0 lead for Saucon Valley.
The Panthers and Slaters exchanged possessions and near the end 2nd Quarter, Bangor went to the air. Quarterback Bo Meyers found Nick Davanzo for a 53-yard touchdown with 1:30 left in the half. Davanzo kept his feet in the sloppy part of the field and ran untouched into the end zone for the score. The Slaters missed the extra-point but closed the gap to 21-6.
Ian Ciscsek had another outstanding night for the Saucon Valley Panthers.
The Panthers responded, however, courtesy of a Curtis Clifford kickoff return out to midfield. Saucon was looking for more points. In just four plays the Panthers found paydirt with a little help from the Slaters. Ian Csicsek rumbled for a 25-yard gain off right tackle, and was hit late out of bounds for an additional fifteen yards due to the penalty. Two plays later, freshman quarterback, Dante Mahaffey took the plunge from one yard out. Cyphers did his thing and the Panthers took a 28-6 lead into the halftime break.

The Panthers started the 2nd-Half at their own 24-yardine in the sloppy part of the field and the offense sputtered going three-and-out. Patrick Morrissey nailed a punt that was left to roll down the Slater 28-yardline. Bangor put together a ten-play drive that ended with Garrett DeBoer finding room around the Panthers left end for 19-yard TD. The Slaters two-point conversion was no good and with 6:13 left to play in the 3rd Quarter the scoreboard read 28-12 in favor of Saucon Valley.

Just when it seemed as if the Slaters were stealing some of the momentum in the game, the Panthers stole it right back. Saucon Valley ran a reverse on the ensuing kickoff return that paid off big time. Ian Csicsek received the kickoff and sprinted right toward the Panther bench at the 10-yardline where he hand the ball off to Curtis Clifford who hit the jets down the sideline in front of the Slater bench. Clifford didn’t stop until he advanced the kickoff 90 yards and into the endzone. The extra-point missed, but at the 5:58 mark in the 3rd Quarter, Saucon led 34-12.
The Saucon Valley defense stepped up during the next Slater possession and forced the Slaters to turn the ball over on downs at their own 38-yardline. The Panthers took over and marched the other way for another score. Christian “Mongo” Alling powered in on a dive up the middle for a 10-yard touchdown run. With a little over a minute left in the 3rd Quarter it was a 42-12 lead for the Panthers.

Bangor returned the Saucon kickoff out to their 40-yardline. Two plays later feshman safety, Ty Csencsits picked off a Bo Meyers pass intended for Nick Davanzo. Saucon Valley then turned around and marched the other way and pieced together a 58-yard drive that ended with a four yard Dante Mahaffey touchdown pass to tight end Patrick Morrissey. Morrissey’s catch closed out all scoring and the Panthers left Bangor with a 48-12 victory. Saucon Valley remains unbeaten.
