A $1.47 million project to restore a prominent corner commercial space on the Berwick Street corridor in south Easton is moving forward after the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency approved $600,000 for the project. The project will include four affordable housing units and cost a total of $1.47 million.
State Rep. Robert Freeman (D-136) said the project is important in part because Berwick Street has historically been South Side Easton’s primary commercial corridor.
“These changes will be a welcome addition to Easton’s South Side neighborhood,” he said.
The PHFA funding for the project was made available through the Community Revitalization Fund Program via Pennsylvania’s Mixed Use Development Tax Credit.
“The CRFP seeks to expand or rehabilitate affordable housing coupled with retail/commercial space to promote community revitalization,” a news release from Freeman’s office said.
