Large Crowd Grooves to Large Flowerheads at Dimmick Park Concert

Est. Read Time: 5 mins

More than 1,200 turned out for the first free Music in the Park concert of the 2019 summer season Sunday night. The Large Flowerheads filled Hellertown’s Dimmick Park with the sounds of the ’60s and ’70s, and fans of the Woodstock era–many wearing tie-dyed apparel–came prepared to dance the evening away.

It wasn’t Woodstock, but it was the closest thing Hellertown’s seen to it.

A large crowd filled the borough’s Dimmick Park Sunday evening for the first free Music in the Park concert of the summer, with organizers estimating that more than 1,200 people came to hear–and groove to–the sounds of the ’60s and ’70s as performed by popular cover band The Large Flowerheads.

The weather for the show was just about perfect, but the Hellertown-Lower Saucon Chamber of Commerce’s Jessica O’Donnell commented on Facebook that a mini-crisis of sorts was also averted during the show.

“One of our food trucks’ generators broke down, and they could not serve food, which meant we were down to one food truck and an ice cream truck,” O’Donnell wrote in a comment. “But the Hellertown mayor and council members stepped up and started serving hot dogs and hamburgers out of the stand, taking the stress off of Licensed 2 Grill.”

“We are very thankful that we have a supportive borough like we do, but also that Licensed 2 Grill hung in there with us,” she said. “No one could have planned for that many people, food trucks or not. Our drinks vendors even sold out multiple times (so) that they had to go running for more!”

The annual Music in the Park series is organized and hosted by the chamber and the Borough of Hellertown, with generous support from local business sponsors, including presenting sponsor Spirk Brothers Inc.

Saucon Source is also proud to help sponsor Music in the Park.

The next concert will be held Sunday, June 23 at 6 p.m. and will feature a performance by Cunningham & Associates. Food will be sold by Cool Treats Ice Cream Truck and Cone Appetit Food Truck, and beer will be sold by Lost Tavern Brewing.
