The holiday spirit will wrap around Coopersburg this Saturday, Dec. 12, when the Southern Lehigh Chamber of Commerce & Coopersburg Fire Co. No. 1 present the borough’s annual tree-lighting ceremony from 6 to 8 p.m. However, the event will be different than what was originally planned, as a result of new COVID-19 restrictions.
Rather than an event held outside the fire company and Coopersburg Borough Hall, the tree-lighting will now be a drive-thru holiday celebration, perhaps along the lines of what was held in Hellertown’s Dimmick Park last month.
Bags of hot chocolate kits, craft kits and toys will be handed out by chamber volunteers and sponsors outside the fire company, which is located at 13 S. Main Street. Also on hand will be Elsa and Olaf (from the film “Frozen”) as well as Santa himself!
Motorists should approach the fire company by taking Rt. 309 south to East State Street to the fire company, which is at the corner of State and Main. The line of traffic will be directed to turn right at the light at that intersection.
The tree-lighting ceremony is being supported by numerous local business sponsors, including Saucon Source, J.P. Mascaro & Sons, ServPro of Western Lehigh County, Potts’ Hot Dogs, Thrifty Car Sales, The Goddard School of Center Valley, Creekview Veterinary Hospital, QNB, G&T Auto Body, Keystone Consulting Engineers, Hausman Fruit Farm, Designing Wealth Management of Raymond James and BB&T now Truist.
The weather forecast for Saturday night calls for temperatures in the 40s with a 40 percent chance of showers.
Hellertown’s drive-thru event–part of a Holiday Weekend Extravaganza organized by the chamber–drew hundreds of motorists to the park, which was decorated for the holidays.
