The National Weather Service is warning Lehigh Valley residents that snow and ice expected Saturday and Sunday “will cause treacherous driving conditions.”
In a winter weather advisory issued for the region Friday afternoon, the NWS said residents should expect 2 to 4 inches of snow as well as up to a tenth of inch of ice.
“The highest accumulations of snow and ice are expected in the higher elevations,” the advisory said.
The precipitation is expected to begin as light snow that’s expected to begin overnight, with accumulations of less than an inch expected by dawn Saturday.
“The snow is expected to transition to freezing drizzle or light freezing rain Saturday morning and continue through early afternoon,” the advisory said. “A switchover back to light to moderate snow is expected late Saturday afternoon. Snow should diminish late Saturday night.”
Much of the Saucon Valley is still digging out from a major winter storm that dumped in excess of a foot of snow and sleet on the area Tuesday and closed school for three consecutive days.
The storm on Tuesday also caused problems on major roads due to the compaction of sleet that fell, although by Friday most if not all roads were passable if not down to blacktop.
The winter weather advisory issued Friday is in effect from 6 a.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday.
