Despite forecasts that included a chance of storms, the weather held out and the sun shone on the 17th annual Hellertown-Lower Saucon Community Day in Dimmick Park Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Dozens of local businesses and nonprofit organizations selling food, sharing information and offering giveaways, raffle prizes and more filled the park’s grassy green, with live entertainment, activities for kids and demonstrations interspersed throughout the day.
There was even a dunk tank sponsored by the Lower Saucon Township Police Officers Association, in which a number of officers, Hellertown mayor David Heintzelman and others volunteered to get wet for a good cause.
Other highlights included:
- Yoga in the Park with All Bright Yoga
- The opening ceremony featuring the American Legion Riders, the Girl Scouts’ Flag Ceremony, the singing of the National Anthem and opening remarks.
- A Lower Saucon Township Police Department K-9 Unit demonstration.
- En Avant School of Dance performance
- Saucon Valley Karate demonstration
- A performance by “The Deadliners”
Following Community Day a charity softball game between the Borough of Hellertown and Lower Saucon Township employees was held.
“The event was a success and even though Team Hellertown won,” everyone was a winner the Borough wrote on its Facebook page, adding that the money raised will be donated to the Hellertown Historical Society.

Following the charity softball game, a free Music in t he Park concert was held at the Dimmick Park bandshell. Local band Cunningham & Associates performed and food, beer and wine were available from local vendors.
CJ Landis of Star Preowned Hellertown was at Hellertown-Lower Saucon Community Day with a prize wheel, giveaways and information about the dealerships upcoming classic car show on Sunday, Sept. 23.
Fred and Rachel Magargal, owners of Bucks Run Oil of Lower Saucon Township, brought one of their gleaming oil delivery trucks to Hellertown-Lower Saucon Community Day for kids to climb in and out of. They also held a raffle adult attendees could enter for a chance to win 50 gallons of home heating oil.
Anna DiMaio of DiMaio’s Italian Ristorante & Pizzeria along with her family served up delicious food at the park pavilion, as they have for many years at Hellertown-Lower Saucon Community Day. DiMaio’s is celebrating its 33rd year in business in Hellertown.
Hellertown mayor David Heintzelman was a good sport, taking numerous drops into the Lower Saucon Police Officers Association’s dunk tank in stride.
