Two of the goats from Old Well Farm, which makes goat’s milk soap, were a popular attraction at Springfield Township Community Day Saturday.
If your idea of fun is a warm day in the countryside of Upper Bucks County, with tractor-drawn hayrides, goats to pet, homemade food to savor, demonstrations by local fire and police departments to watch, and countless other activities to enjoy, hopefully you were at Springfield Township Community Day Saturday.
The annual celebration of life in Bucks County’s northwest corner was held at Silver Creek Athletic Association near Springtown, where it drew hundreds of residents from throughout the area to visit booths by groups such as the Springfield Townhip Historical Commission, Springfield Township EAC, Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church (which sold food in the picnic grove’s pavilion) and local family-owned businesses such as Bucks Run Oil, the Bees Knees Bakery and Old Well Farm.
Nicole Zane, co-owner of The Bees Knees Bakery, welcomed Springfield Township Community Day visitors to the bakery’s booth. The bakery opened in July and as such is one of the township’s newest businesses. In addition to traditional and gluten-free baked goods, the Bees Knees Bakery also sells ice cream, bagels, breakfast sandwiches and honey produced by Honeycomb Creek Farm, which is located on the same property.
Springfield Township Community Day was held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Other highlights included a food drive held by local Boy Scouts, a silent auction to benefit Upper Bucks Regional EMS’s purchase of a fourth ambulance, a Jaws of Life demonstration and live entertainment, including a performance by the band Waterfront Blue.
Participating sponsors of the event included the Bees Knees Bakery, Onny’s Treats, Christ Lutheran Evangelical Church of Springtown, Kirsten’s Mystical Treasures, Salem United Methodist Church, Lighting by Fillman, Springfield Township Parks and Land Preservation Board, Bucks County 4-H Horse Bowl Team, Spurs N Burrs 4-H Club, UBCTS Mechatronics, Old Well Farm, Saucon Valley Kingdom Hall, Palisades High School Baseball Team, Springfield Township Historical Society Inc., Girl Scout Troop 21321, Bucks County Republican Committee, Trinity UCC, Palisades Community Bible Fellowship Church, Springfield Township Lions Club, Bucks Run Oil and Tiny Tots.
“Nearly everything you enjoy today is the result of volunteers,” the Springfield Township Community Day Committee wrote in this year’s Community Day program. “Our township cannot function without citizens willing to share their professional and practical skillsets. Springfield Township is an exceptional place to live, and it is made better through the efforts of all of its citizens.”

Old Well Farm is a family-owned goat farm located in Lower Saucon Township. Owners Beata and Ty Johnson sell soaps and lotions made from goat’s milk.
The Springtown Volunteer Fire Company used a ladder truck to display a large American flag over the grove.

Bucks Run Oil of Lower Saucon Township is a family-owned and operated heating oil and diesel supplier that’s been serving Upper Bucks County and beyond since 2011. The community-minded business held a drawing to win free heating oil and gave away t-shirts.
An old-fashioned hayride delighted riders young and old.
