Along with other noteworthy dates, Oct. 30, 2014 will now live in the collective memory of Panther sports fans as the day the Saucon boys soccer team triumphed 3-1 over Northwestern Lehigh to win the District 11 Class AA championship.

According to the Express-Times, the thrilling victory also marked the first time the team has won the coveted District 11 title since 1972, although they came close by reaching the finals round in 2011 and 2012.

Saucon senior Zach Reichard was the game’s standout player, scoring all three of the goals the Panthers recorded, the newspaper reported.

The Panthers now advance to the first round of the PIAA playoffs, the Morning Call reported.

Saucon will host District 1 champions Holy Ghost Prep Tuesday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. at Emmaus High School stadium in Emmaus.
