It will be a battle between two longstanding rivals when the Saucon Valley Panther and the Southern Lehigh Spartan football teams take to the gridiron in the District 11 Class AAA semifinals Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at the Southern Lehigh School District stadium in Center Valley.

Both teams have 9-1 records, although the Panthers have the arguable advantage, as they delivered the Spartans their only loss of the season so far on Sept. 12.

According to an article published by the Express-Times, Saturday night’s game will be Saucon’s first district playoff matchup since 2008, although the team won the 2013 Eastern Conference AAA championship by fending off Wilkes-Barre Coughlin.

Southern Lehigh has never won a district title, according to the article.
