A breakaway piece of “polar vortex” air is descending south toward Pennsylvania, where it will cause overnight lows to drop well into the teens in the Saucon Valley area, experts are predicting.

Weather Underground is forecasting the low in Hellertown to drop to 16 degrees, which is 16 degrees below the average low for this time of year (32). A low of 16 would also tie the record low for Nov. 18 at Allentown, which was set back in 1933 according to historical data.

West winds of 10 to 20 mph overnight could drop wind chills to around 0.

Although a brief warmup into the 50s is forecast for early next week, temperatures are predicted to generally remain below normal during the upcoming 10-day period.
