To kickstart the holiday shopping season, most major malls and big box stores such as Walmart are opening earlier than ever on Thanksgiving Day this year. Many major retailers are opening at 6 o’clock on “Black Thursday,” and some such as Old Navy are opening as early as 4 p.m. But the prospect of getting their hands on Black Friday bargains before it’s actually Black Friday isn’t enticing very many Saucon Valley residents, according to an exclusive Saucon Source poll.
The poll–in which 132 votes had been recorded as of Wednesday–indicates that the popular sentiment in Hellertown and Lower Saucon is generally against shopping on Black Thursday.
Just five responders, or 3.8 percent of poll-takers, said they definitely plan to hit the stores on Thanksgiving Day; 86.4 percent or 114 people said they do not plan to shop till they drop on Thursday; six people said they weren’t sure what they were going to do; and three lucky local residents said the point for them is moot, since they’re already done with their holiday shopping.
Do you plan to get a jumpstart on Black Friday by shopping on Thanksgiving Day? Or do you think stores should remain closed on the holiday, so employees can spend time with their families and families can spend more time together? Tell us what you think in the comments section.
Happy Thanksgiving!
