In a post on their Facebook page Monday, police said the resident’s card was used to purchase a $491 touchscreen thermostat that was shipped to an address in Leola, Lancaster County, Pa.

Police said that when they contacted the person who lives at the shipping address, they were told “that they had taken a job they applied for online for a quality insurance position. The job was for them to receive packages, inspect them, and if the items were not damaged they were to repackage them and send them to other addresses.”

According to township police, 16 packages were recovered from the Leola residence and an investigation is continuing.

Police added that members of the public should “use caution when applying for similar-like jobs found on the Internet or advertised in other formats.”
