Se-Wy-Co Fire Co. Recipient of $25K Grant
Se-Wy-Co Fire Company in Lower Saucon Township is one of a number of area volunteer fire and ambulance companies that were recently awarded more than $160,000 in grant money from Pennsylvania’s Office of the State Fire Commissioner, state Rep. Justin Simmons (R-131) announced in his Feb. 6 newsletter.

According to the newsletter, Se-Wy-Co’s grant is for $25,784.70.
Other local volunteer fire companies that received grants include:
- Upper Saucon Township Volunteer Fire Department No. 1 – $14,284.70
- Coopersburg Fire Company No. 1 – $14,284.70
- Lower Milford Township Fire Company 1 – $14,007.69
- Eastern Salisbury Fire Ambulance and Rescue Company – $14,007.69
The grant money came from slot machine proceeds, and the funding can be used for building projects, equipment purchases or repairs, training or reducing debt, Simmons said.
In January, Lower Saucon Township Council approved a memorandum of agreement with the township’s three volunteer fire companies–Southeastern, Se-Wy-Co and Steel City–to participate in the process of developing a plan for a consolidated township fire department.
The proposed consolidated township fire department would have a unified command structure but preserve the autonomy of the existing fire companies.
