Jean Marie (McCarthy) Dolan, 85, of Milford Township, died Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at Phoebe Richland Health Care Center, Richland Township. She was the wife of the late Walter J. Dolan, who died March 11, 2015. She was born in Providence, R.I., on July 19, 1929 to the late James V. and Genevieve (Carmody) McCarthy. She taught computer science at Bethlehem Vocational Technical School and was a writer for The Intelligencer, Quakertown Free Press and several magazines. Jean was a member of Church of the Assumption of the BVM, Bethlehem, where she served as greeter and was active in health and funeral ministries. She was a cum laude graduate of Emmanuel College, Boston, and received her master’s degree from the University of Sind, Hyderabad, Pakistan, where she took top honors. She served 18 years as a member of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary and spent eight of those years in Pakistan, where she taught in high school, college and at a hospital. She also directed a hospital laboratory and blood bank in Pakistan and was a member of a team that helped create Pakistan’s national blood bank service. She was also a volunteer for Bucks County Habitat for Humanity, Bethany Soup Kitchen and Volunteer Doctors Care in Quakertown.

Sister: Lois Fink of Murrells Inlet, S.C.; brother: Donald McCarthy and his wife Lorraine of Pawtucket, R.I.; several nieces and nephews.

SERVICE

Family and friends are invited to call from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Thursday, March 26, 2015 at Assumption of the BVM, 4101 Old Bethlehem Pike, Bethlehem. The calling hour will be followed by a mass at 10 a.m. The interment will be held in Rhode Island. Online expressions of sympathy can be recorded at www.heintzelmancares.com.
