“A small salon with a big, fun personality” is an apt description for Hairs What’s Happening, which opened last summer in Water Street Plaza, just off Main Street in Hellertown.

And now a new face is part of the fun.

Stylist Gina Falco joined the Hairs What’s Happening team earlier this month, after working for several years at a large Bethlehem salon.

A graduate of Northampton Community College and Metro Beauty Academy, Gina said she feels right at home amid the warm, modern decor of Hairs What’s Happening, and enjoys the easygoing work environment salon owner Lori Bisson has created.

She joins stylists Elizabeth Daniel and Girard Moscato–a former New Jersey salon owner, Bisson noted.

Bisson explained that her son introduced her to the “outgoing” Falco–a former NCC athlete–and they clicked immediately after their first meeting.

“(Gina) came in…and it was like she already worked here,” she said.

Falco specializes in hair color transformations–including dramatic color–but she also does men’s cuts, eyebrow waxing, up-dos, and just about anything else a customer could want.

She noted that she has a lot of experience doing hair for bridal parties.

“I like to do really dramatic changes,” she said, adding that “just making people feel good” is one of the best things about being a hair stylist.

In order to do her best, she often looks for inspiration online, sometimes searching for YouTube videos in order to develop ideas or study techniques.

“You definitely can never stop learning in this business,” Falco said. “You have to keep up with the styles.”

Aside from new trends, “it’s all about the quality,” she noted. “Listening’s huge.”

Bisson, of Lower Saucon Township, is herself a veteran of another area salon.

After working for years at that business–and with support from many former clients and friends–she decided to open her own salon in 2014.

Over the past seven months she’s reconnected with many of her former clients from throughout the area via word of mouth and the salon’s popular Facebook page.

Bisson recommended that customers follow the Facebook page for information about the salon’s one-day specials, such as “Mancrush Mondays” (when men’s haircuts are discounted) and “Throwback Thursdays” (when the price of a cut is rewound to what it was years ago).

Birthdays are also special at Hair’s What’s Happening. So special, in fact, that loyal customers are treated to a free service on their special day.

Complimentary beverages (including beer and wine) are available to customers, as is free wifi. And kids receive special treatment, too, with their very own “pedal car” barber chair.

Plenty of free parking is available in the lot directly in front of the salon, which is located next to Saucon Valley Sporting Goods at 39 W. Water St., Hellertown.

Hairs What’s Happening is open Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Bisson noted that HWH is one of the few salons in the area that’s open Mondays.

Gina’s hours are Tuesday through Thursday, noon to 8 p.m., Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

To schedule an appointment with Gina, Lori or any of the stylists at Hairs What’s Happening, call 484-851-3428 or 484-851-3441.

Bisson said she also has openings for other experienced stylists–particularly those with a following.

In addition to the Facebook profile (which anyone can friend request), the salon has a Facebook page, a Twitter feed (@hwhsalon) and a presence on both Instagram and Foursquare.
