GoFundMe Set Up for Southeastern Volunteer Recovering from Open Heart Surgery

A GoFundMe crowdfunding campaign has been established by the family of a 30-year volunteer with Southeastern Fire Company to help raise money to cover expenses while he recovers from open heart surgery and his family is without his income.

Joe “Skunk” Gerstenberg of Hellertown had the surgery to remove two blockages on Tuesday, and is expected to be out of work for at least three months.

According to an update posted by the family Thursday, Skunk’s health is improving following the surgery, but he remains “weak and tired” with “a long road” ahead of him.

As of Thursday evening, seven donors had contributed more then $500 toward a goal of $10,000.
