Morning Accident Near Orchard DUI-Related, Police Say

Lower Saucon Township said Friday that a single-vehicle accident near Bechdolt’s Orchard in the 2200 block of Leithsville Road earlier this month was DUI-related.

In a news release, police said driver Stacey Coffin, 34, of the 1100 block of Furnace Street, Hellertown, was determined to have a .18 percent blood alcohol concentration following the 9:55 a.m. July 16 crash that resulted in “major” damage to her 2001 Ford Explorer.

Coffin was trapped in the vehicle following the wreck, and was only able to be freed by emergency responders after “an extensive period of time,” police said.

“During the rescue, EMS personnel reported the smell of alcohol and that Stacey made an excited utterance to the affect (sic) that she had drank (sic) alcohol that morning,” police said.

Her blood was drawn and tested at St. Luke’s University Hospital following that alleged admission, authorities stated.

Coffin has been charged with DUI, driving a vehicle at an unsafe speed, careless driving and driving on the wrong side of the roadway according to the news release.

The legal BAC limit for most drivers in Pennsylvania is .08 percent.
