16-Year-Old Boy to Be Charged With DUI, Police Say

A 16-year-old driver whose blood alcohol concentration was allegedly .023 percent when he was stopped by police on Crestline Drive Sept. 19 will be charged with DUI, Lower Saucon Township Police said in a news release Thursday.

According to police, the boy was stopped for two traffic violations shortly after 11 p.m. when an officer smelled an alcoholic beverage while talking to him.

The boy passed field sobriety tests, but since a breath test was positive for the presence of alcohol he was taken to the Bethlehem Township DUI Center for further processing, police said.

Pennsylvania has a “zero tolerance” DUI law for minors, meaning any measurable amount of alcohol in a minor’s bloodstream can result in a DUI charge.

For motorists aged 21 and over, the legal blood alcohol limit is .08 percent.

Police said that in addition to DUI, the teen will be charged with underage drinking.
