Hellertown Council to Donate $1,000 to Veterans Memorial Expansion

Borough of Hellertown

Hellertown Borough Council by a vote of 4-2 Monday approved a motion to donate $1,000 to a project to expand the Hellertown-Lower Saucon veterans memorial wall in Union Cemetery of Hellertown.

Borough manager Cathy Hartranft said that outside of a form letter limited information about the volunteer-led project has been provided, but essentially the goal is to increase the size of the wall so more names can be added to it.

ā€œThey’ve run out of space,ā€ confirmed Bob Hero, who was seated in the audience.

Voting against the motion were council members James Hill and Richard Staffieri.

ā€œI don’t know why they don’t have a representative here to present (the plan) to council,ā€ Staffieri commented.

Hartranft said the money can come from the borough’s general fund.
