Local Woman Recovering After Accident Near Giant

Note: This article has been updated with information provided by Lower Saucon Township Police Department.

A Hellertown woman known to many for her work at a local daycare center, her regular walks around town and her management of the Hellertown, Pennsylvania Facebook group is recovering after she was struck by a car near the entrance to the Creekside Marketplace shopping center in Lower Saucon Township Tuesday night.

Kim Frain said she was walking home from the Giant supermarket in the shopping center when she was hit at around 7 p.m.

“I just remember leaving Giant and then waking up in the hospital,” she said Wednesday. “I don’t know if I was in the parking lot still or in the road crossing.”

Frain posted a photo of herself on Facebook in which she appears battered, bruised and resting in a hospital bed.

Township police said Thursday that an investigation determined Frain was struck by a driver from Springtown when she walked into traffic for unknown reasons.

Frain wanted to communicate with her friends on Facebook Wednesday, many of whom have expressed their sympathy and wishes for a speedy recovery.

Passers-by the accident scene Tuesday said they became alarmed when they saw shoes and strewn groceries in the roadway and realized a walker had been struck.

In spite of its close proximity to the densely populated borough of Hellertown, there is no sidewalk between the borough’s south border at Polk Valley Road and the shopping center.

A LANta bus provides limited daytime service to the Creekside Marketplace, but many area residents walk along the shoulder of busy Rt. 412 at all hours to reach it.
