On the heels of the team’s most successful season ever Saucon Valley Head Football Coach Matt Evancho has resigned his coaching position to spend more time with his family, district athletic director Bob Frey said in an emailed statement Tuesday.

“It is with heartfelt regret that the Saucon Valley School District and Saucon Valley Athletic Department accept the resignation of Mr. Matt Evancho as our Head Football Coach,” Frey said.

“In his nine years as our head coach, Matt compiled a record of 61 wins and 43 losses; more wins than any other head coach in Saucon Valley History. Coach Evancho lead the Panthers to two Eastern Conference Championships (2007 and 2013), two Colonial League Championships (2014 and 2015), a District XI AAA Championship (2015) and a berth in the PIAA State AAA Semi-Finals (2015),” he said.

Frey noted that “in his tenure at Saucon Valley, Coach Evancho has taught his players the importance of many life lessons; dedication, hard work and commitment. It is Coach Evancho’s emphasis on building character, respect, sportsmanship and dedication to family that will be his lasting impact on the Saucon Valley Football program. Coach Evancho’s choice to dedicate time to his family is the driving force in his decision, and Coach Evancho’s choice to practice what he teaches our players and students is very much respected.”

“The last nine years, but especially the 2015 football season was one in which the Hellertown and Lower Saucon communities will not soon forget,” Frey concluded. “Coach Evancho will continue as a member of our Saucon Valley family as a teacher and in other roles, but we offer our sincere thanks for his commitment, dedication and leadership to our football program and our students.”
