All 8 Saucon Valley Wrestlers Advance to Hershey

Eight Saucon Valley wrestlers made it to the PIAA “AA” regional tournament at Wilson West-Lawn over the weekend and all eight will now continue to the “Big Show” at Hershey. The Panthers demonstrated, once again, that they are a wrestling powerhouse. Overall the Panthers finished second in the team standings with 125 points–three points behind Boiling Springs.

All eight Saucon grapplers qualify for the PIAA state championships in Hershey.

Eight Saucon Valley wrestlers made it to the PIAA “AA” regional tournament at Wilson West-Lawn over the weekend, and all eight will now continue to the “Big Show” at Hershey. The Panthers demonstrated, once again, that they are a wrestling powerhouse. Overall the Panthers finished second in the team standings with 125 points–three points behind Boiling Springs. Had injured Panther Blayne Hirschbeck made the trip, the Panthers surely would have won the team title.

Senior Jack Hill is a regional champ!

Senior Jack Hill (120) is a regional champ.

Jonah Zych is also a 2016 regional champ!

Jonah Zych (126) is also a 2016 regional champ.

Saucon seniors Jack Hill (120) and Jonah Zych (126) are now regional champions. Hill improved to a 29-1 record for the season by pinning Joe Lobeck of Lancaster Catholic in the finals. Hill gave Lobeck his second loss of the season. Zych, using a takedown and an escape, won a 3-2 decision over Nathan HaubertĀ of Palisades to win his Southeast regional title.

Dylan Yonney (160) is on his way to Hershey.

Junior Devin Fontanez is going to Hershey!

Junior Devin Fontanez (220) is going to Hershey.

Senior Dylan Yonney (160) and junior Devin Fontanez (220) earned third place finishes for the Panthers, while freshman Nick Rosengrant and senior Nate Harka each finished fourth.

Freshman Nick Rosengrant is a state qualifier.

Senior Nate Harka (152) heads back to Hershey.

Saucon Sophomore Jason Jones and his brother Josh, a freshman, will head to Hershey as well. Jason finished fifth, while his younger bro ended up sixth.

These powerful Panthers will regroup and head west to Hershey for Thursday’s opening round. Hopefully this time next week Saucon Valley will have crowned its next state champion. Or, perhaps there will be multiple Panther champs! Either way, Saucon Source will be there to cover the action and we hope you are too!

Freshman Josh Jones (132) is going to Chocolatetown.
