Matey’s Crossroads Hotel has been a fixture at the high-traffic intersection of Main and High streets in Hellertown for generations.

According to an article published Tuesday by LehighValleyLive.com, Matey’s Crossroads Hotel–which is famous for, among other things, its cheesesteaks and pizza–is up for sale.

Owner Ray Matey told the newspaper he is selling the family recipes that have made his restaurant beloved, along with the three-story building and everything in it.

He will also assist with the transition to a new owner, and plans to enjoy retirement in Hellertown with his wife Diane once that is complete, according to the story.

Matey’s is located at 1443 Main St., at a busy intersection not far from the I-78 interchange at Rt. 412.

Crossroads is one of the few remaining “cash-only” restaurants in the area and retains the dark wood decor that was popular in the mid-20th century.

Another iconic decorative feature is a huge marlin that’s been mounted on its back wall since the early 1980s.

The article published by LehighValleyLive didn’t identify an asking price for the restaurant, which includes a bar. Apartments are located above the restaurant.

Online searches failed to locate any current real estate listings for the property.
