An Easton woman is charged with theft and receiving stolen property, after Lower Saucon Township Police say she stole thousands of dollars over an eight-month period from her stepmother, who is a resident at Weston Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, 1896 Leithsville Road, in the township.

In a news release issued Monday, police said Linda Jo Brooks, of the 1500 block of Bushkill Street, had power of attorney for her stepmother when she allegedly took $7,744.50 out of the woman’s checking and savings accounts and used it for personal expenditures.

The alleged theft occurred between September 2015 and May 2016, police said.

Police said Brooks turned herself in to authorities after an arrest warrant was issued on the charges.

She was released on $10,000 unsecured bail and ordered not to have any contact with the alleged victim following an arraignment before District Judge David Tidd, the news release indicated.
