Author and blogger Marisa McClellan's newest book is Naturally Sweet: Food in Jars.

Philadelphia canning expert, author and blogger Marisa McClellan’s newest book is Naturally Sweet: Food in Jars. McClellan will conduct a demonstration at the Saucon Valley Farmers’ Market in Hellertown July 24.

McClellan–who is the author of Food in Jars and Naturally Sweet Food in Jars–is especially known for her innovative canning techniques, such as preserving food without cups and cups of refined sugar.

Attendees at her demonstration will learn how to safely can using honey, maple syrup, coconut sugar and other natural sweeteners.

She will also demonstrate how to make a batch of honey-sweetened peach rosemary glaze, and how to use a boiling water bath for safe, shelf-stable food preservation.

Philadelphia native McClellan has taught canning and preserving for more than a decade and loves to share her knowledge with new and experienced canners alike.

Her newest and third book, Naturally Sweet Food in Jars: 100 Preserves Made with Coconut, Maple, Honey and More (Running Press, 2016), focuses on less-refined sweeteners and contains recipes for Cantaloupe-Basil Jam, Date Pancake Syrup and Marinated Multicolored Peppers, among others.

McClellan’s website is foodinjars.com.

The Saucon Valley Farmers’ Market is held weekly at Water Street Park in Hellertown on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (from May through November).
