Richard S. Schaffer Sr., 83, of Coopersburg, died Monday, Aug. 15, 2016 at his residence.

Richard S. Schaffer Sr., 83, of Coopersburg, died Monday, Aug. 15, 2016 at his residence. He was the husband of Kathryn A. (Urmy) Schaffer. He was born in Lower Milford Township on Jan. 30, 1933 to the late Melvin F. Schaffer Sr. and Jennie H. (Erney). Richard worked at Southern Lehigh High School as a custodian for 18 years until retiring in 1995 and previously at the former Rodale Manufacturing, Emmaus, as a floor worker for 23 years. He was a faithful member of St. Paul’s “Blue Church” Lutheran Church, Coopersburg, for over 60 years; a life member of the Coopersburg Fire Co.; a member of the Coopersburg Men’s Bowling League; a Southern Lehigh Little League Association former coach and member; and a member of Limeport Stadium Inc. Richard enjoyed local sports and rooting for the Phillies, and was an avid jigsaw player.

SURVIVORS

In addition to his loving wife of 60 years; son: Richard S. Jr. (Sherri Lou) of Marlton, N.J.; granddaughter: Casey Jane; sister: LaMae Charron of Emmaus. He was predeceased by 14 siblings.

SERVICE

Family and friends are invited to call from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., 326 Main St., Hellertown. The calling hour will be followed by the service at 1:30 p.m. The interment will conclude services at Blue Church Cemetery, Upper Saucon Township.
