Listen up everybody! My name is Brutus (but you can call me Brutie). Everyone does. I have come to the realization that it’s true what they say: “Black dogs are the most overlooked dogs in shelters.” I know from experience, because I’ve been waiting at my shelter (The Center for Animal Health and Welfare) for three years now. Anyone who knows me will agree that is absolutely absurd!Brutus Let me lay everything out on the table for you… I have one downfall. That’s right, there is only “one.” I don’t like other animals, so I will need to be your one and only. I wouldn’t think that is such a big deal because I’ve watched many dogs leave this place knowing they were going to be the only pet…so what the heck?? I am fairly strong on the leash, but I have excellent manners, so I’m not going to pull your arm out of its socket. I am extremely smart. I know all my commands (more than any of the other dogs here at the shelter) and I am very treat-motivated and eager to learn…so the possibilities are endless! I enjoy a regular amount of exercise and just as much (actually probably more) relaxing and chilling out with my human friends. I like all kinds of people–big and small–but I may be a bit much for the little ones, because I am a big boy and may be too rough for them. I like to be treated with respect as well and I promise to do the same for you. While the shelter has treated me very well, it’s very important to me to get adopted soon. See, my favorite person in the world, my main caregiver, is going to be leaving my shelter to go to another one and help the doggies there. I’m happy for her, but it will break my heart to see her go. Even though there are a lot of other people here that love me, I don’t think I will be able to stay here with her gone. It’s time for me to move on as well. Understand that I’m not trying to push myself on you. I only want to be with someone who will love me back the same way I will love them. I’m just asking that you come the Center and ask to meet me (I’m staying in the quiet building). That way you can see for yourself what I’m all about. I promise you I won’t be a disappointment. I know not everyone is looking for a dog and many others already have them…so if you could please share me with everyone and everywhere I would be forever thankful. Thanks so much for your help. Hugs and kisses! BRUTIE
