Hellertown ushered in the holiday season Friday with the annual Light-Up Night event sponsored by the Hellertown-Lower Saucon Chamber of Commerce.
Beginning at 6 p.m. guests were treated to an evening of dancers, carolers, Christmas music, hot chocolate and cookies donated by Hellertown Bakery, before an invocation delivered by Bud Prosser and a few words from Mayor Richard Fluck.
With help from Austin Rosenberger–Fluck’s great-grandson–the switch was then thrown and Detwiller Plaza and Borough Hall were bathed in the warmth of gleaming, festive lights strung across trees and shrubbery.
Shortly afterwards the crowd parted for the arrival of Santa Claus on a decorated vintage Dewey Fire Company fire truck.
Temporarily trading his reindeer and sleigh for the gleaming fire engine, the man in red waved to the crowd before listening to the Christmas wishes of local children, each of whom walked away with a smile–as well as a box of Peeps donated by Just Born Inc.
