This past Sunday a couple hundred youth wrestlers from all corners of the Lehigh Valley and beyond set their sights on Hellertown to participate in a little preseason wrestling competition. The first ever “Turkey Day Open Wrestling Tournament” was hosted by the Saucon Valley Wrestling Club.

The nine hour tournament was divided into a morning and afternoon session. The Tot and Midget divisions began at 8:30 a.m. while the Bantam and Juniors started at 12:30. In all, there were 35 weight categories spread among the four divisions.

Competing with the Saucon wrestlers were teams from Catasauqua, Emmaus, Forks Township, Lehighton, Northampton, Palisades, Quakertown and Whitehall. The Red Hawk Wrestling Club was also part of the action. The top four finishers in each bracket earned themselves a trophy courtesy of the SV Wrestling Club.

Congrats to all the youth wrestlers who participated and a special thanks to the volunteers who made this inaugural event possible. Many parents as well as some Saucon Valley junior high and high school wrestlers along with their coaches gave many hours of their weekend to help out and make the day a success. It was a great way to start the season!
