Lower Saucon Township Police say a total of eight drivers received citations during an aggressive driving enforcement initiative on township roadways Friday morning.

In a news release, police said three drivers were cited for texting while driving, four were cited for speeding and one was cited for operating a vehicle without a license.

The enforcement was conducted from 6 to 10 a.m., police said.

On Friday, Lehigh Valley Live reported that citations issued for the offense of distracted driving are on the rise in both Northampton and Lehigh counties.

Texting while driving became illegal in Pennsylvania in 2012.
