The Saucon Valley Lady Panthers lacrosse team defeated the Northampton Konkrete Kids 17-6 on Tuesday. With the win, the Panthers improved to a 3-1 record while the Kids dropped to 1-4.

It was a solid win for Saucon Valley, but it took about five minutes of play before the Panthers hit their stride. Northampton struck first when senior, Emily Henry cleanly fielded the opening draw, raced deep into Panther territory and buried the first goal in the opening seconds of the game.

The Panthers answered when they gained possession off the ensuing draw and worked the ball behind the goal to Kiele Riefenstahl.  Riefenstahl connected with a cutting Kat Naiburg who let a shot rip a close range into the back of Northampton’s net.

Henry scored again for the Kids at the 21:00 mark forcing Saucon Valley to burn an early timeout to adjust. Whatever tactics the coaching staff communicated seemed to make an impression on the Panthers’ Helen Kreschollek.  Kreshollek rattled off three consecutive goals against the Kids over the next seven minutes to get Saucon Valley rolling.  The other Panthers followed Kreschollek’s lead and manufactured a total of nine unanswered scores.  The Konkrete Kids did not tally another goal until almost seven minutes into the second half.

After building a 12-2 halftime lead and with the mercy-rule clock running, the Panthers scored five second half goals while giving up four to the Konkrete Kids. The Panthers may have had a little trouble fielding ground balls from time to time due to the choppy field conditions, but their passing in transition from the defensive zone to the offensive attack was crisp, deliberate and efficient. Saucon Valley looked very impressive at times as they quickly moved the ball the length of the field.

The Panther defense including Sarah Duffy, Salome Carr and Shannon Williams did not make it easy for the Kids’ attack.
