A Lower Saucon Township woman has been charged with DUI and careless driving after township police say she nearly caused a head-on collision while driving a BMW SUV on Bingen Road June 22.

In a news release issued Saturday, police said Amy M. Zyck, 50, of the 1500 block of Merryweather Drive, was followed by the man she allegedly nearly hit after crossing over into his lane of travel.

Police said he turned around after the near-accident and followed her to the Giant Food Store parking lot at 1880 Leithsville Road.

Police were summoned, and shortly before 7 p.m. Zyck was allegedly “found asleep behind the steering wheel in the parking space,” the news release stated.

“(Zyck) was found to be very intoxicated,” police said.

After being transported to a local DUI processing center, police said Zyck’s blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was determined to be .29 percent, which is more than three times the legal limit of .08 percent.

A preliminary hearing for Zyck is scheduled for Aug. 10 at 9:15 a.m. before District Judge Anthony G. Rapp Jr., according to court records.
